The great outdoors and therapetic treatment is a powerful combination. We believe that much of the success of both The Journey
programs: Impact Ranch and Rising Phoenix are a powerful combination of
wilderness expeditions and residential treatment. Putting the lessons
learned in counseling into practice in the real world is a key component
of The Journey recovery programs. Residents will do this every day in
their jobs, schooling, and community service. Through our trek program, they also have a unique opportunity to apply their sober life skills on wilderness expeditions. They gain a tremendous sense of accomplishment and self-esteem in exploring new places and meeting new challenges. Our counselors are skilled at making the most of these opportunities for both group and individual therapy, and for reinforcing the recovery work that we do in our residential program. Our EnvironmentThe Journey is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains along the Wasatch Range, which is well known for its abundance of recreational opportunities. The mountains and lakes of the high elevation desert and the eight Utah based National Parks (Arches, Zions, Escalante, Bryce, Canyon Lands,...), the vast numbers of state parks, the slick rocks of Moab, Golden Spike, Pony Express Trail, Topaz, and the ghost towns of the gold rush era provide virtually unlimited areas for hiking, backpacking, horseback riding and canoeing. The beauty and serenity of the wilderness encourages us to take the time for reflection, growth, and healing. Being away from the distractions of day-to-day life makes it easier to build relationships and strengthen bonds, and gives us a chance to gain new perspectives. No Experience Needed
Safety FirstThe Journey has an excellent safety record and meets or exceeds national standards in outdoor programming. We are licensed by the Utah State Department of Human Services to provide residential and wilderness programming. |
